Why two people left cities for this valley, and what it has argued back since.
Everything we got right in June arrives in January. Nothing good here happens on the day you want it — it was settled months ago by somebody doing the dull part properly, in the rain, with nobody watching. One of our fathers wanted a life away from the city and never got one. We are living his idea, a generation late.
You cannot buy a good January. You can only turn out to have earned it.
